Custom software

Custom software for Leicestershire businesses

Custom software has a reputation for agency prices and six-month projects. What most firms actually need is smaller: a tool that replaces the overworked spreadsheet and does one job properly. That's what we build.

What small custom software looks like

Most of these are live in two to six weeks.

How we keep it sane

We build in boring technology you can find another developer for, write a handover document a sceptical IT company could pick up, and hand you the code outright. Hosting costs a few pounds a month. Nothing about this is clever, which is the point; clever is what makes small software expensive to live with.

When the job is bigger

Some jobs genuinely need more than one pair of hands, and we'll say so before anyone commits. When a contract needs a team, we bring in people we trust and stay accountable for the result. What we won't do is dress a big project up as a small one; that's how firms end up with half a system and a dispute.

Where to start

Usually with the question of whether you need custom software at all. A surprising amount of what gets quoted as custom development is really two systems that need connecting or a report that should build itself, at a fraction of the cost. We'll tell you which yours is in the first conversation.

Before you commission anything

If an off-the-shelf package does the job, we'll name it and step back; a £30-a-month subscription beats a build that needs looking after. Custom software earns its keep on the process you run differently from your competitors. Everything else is cheaper bought off the shelf, and we'll say so.
