Which business software has a working API? We checked

An API is the tap built into most modern software for getting data in and out. Whether your package has one decides how cheap it is to get a dashboard, a connection to your accounts, or your numbers onto one screen. So we read the developer documentation for 35 packages small firms actually run, and wrote down what we found. Last checked: July 2026.

How to read the table

public means documented and self-serve: safe to plan around. gated means real documentation exists but access goes through the vendor: fine, allow lead time. none means nothing published: the data still comes out, but by export or a wired-in route, so the first job costs more. Vendors add APIs, so check the date; this page says July 2026 because that's when we looked.

Accounts and the systems every firm has

SoftwareAPIIn practice

Sage 200 / Business CentralpublicProper modern APIs on both.
Shopify / WooCommercepublicWebshops are the easy end of any integration.

Print and signage

SoftwareAPIIn practice

What this means for your next project

If your package is in the public column, a dashboard or a connection to your accounts is a days-to-a-week job. Gated adds a vendor conversation to the front. None means the first job costs more because the route is wired in rather than switched on, and it's exactly where we do our most useful work.

One honest note

A missing API is not a reason to change software. Switching costs more than any connection ever will. And this table is a snapshot: vendors add APIs, rename products and move documentation, so if a row matters to you, check it (or ask us to; it takes us ten minutes).

Is your package in the wrong column?

A first conversation costs nothing.
